NEVELSON ART MUSEUM

In my second year Spring studio, our project was an art museum. We were given a list of sculpture artists and were asked to choose an artist. After choosing an artist, we were then to choose 5 of their works and design a museum with both the artist and their works in mind.

My artist of choice was Louise Nevelson. I appreciated Nevelson’s use of found objects, large scale, and assemblage methods. My idea for the museum was to create a unique space for each of the 5 pieces where each piece was a different experience. When crafting these spaces, I focused on proximity (distance from piece), elevation (height while viewing object), and light (some pieces could interact with direct sunlight). I also created a found object/recyclable drop off space for people to drop off objects they no longer use without entering the museum, but people who are inside the museum could take these items home with them.
